Author/Character Comparison
My English teacher told me that every writer puts a little bit of themselves in every character. I think that's true but I also think Stephen put more of himself in Charlie. I watched many interviews of the author and he repeatedly said that Charlie goes through a lot of what he went to. He said not everything happened to him but a lot of it did and there was even more stuff that's happened in his personal life but that it wasn't something he wanted to share in this book. In the interviews he goes on to say that even to this day he has bad days and great days. Hearing that coming from him I infer that while he was writing the book he was pulling out old memories from being a teenager. He also says that he has a therapist and that plays a huge roll when comparing him to Charlie because Charlie is always bringing up his counselor. Stephen Chbosky wrote The Perks Of Being a Wallflower and he also directed the movie. He put so much effort into making it the way he wanted because most of what happened was real to him. He says himself that he feels so much better now that he has shared his story with the world because people can relate and know that they aren't alone. So that people know that someone else has been through it, that it's real.
" So this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be "
